  1. Beverly Morrison says:

I have come across an empty 1921 Tequila Cream Nom 1535 bottle…is this worth anything?

  2. That’s a great collection! When can we come over?! 🙂

  3. Awesome collection Bob! I didn’t know until now that you were the Tequila Tracker.

  4. B.C. Boot says:

Impressive collection! I am jealous of your selection of Republic Tequilas. A year ago I moved from Colorado to California and found out after my move that Republic is not distributed in California. Republic is one of my all-time favorites and I wish I stocked up on it before my move.

    • tequilabob23 says:

Thanks B.C. You’re in California so you should have no problem getting it online. If you really like the juice, you may want to stock up as there was a distillery change (to NOM 1577) and the new stuff is already out in the stores.

      • tequilabob23 says:

Another follow-up to the Republic brand… Another distillery change has taken place as the brand has been sold. It’s no longer organic and the juice is now diffusor-based.

  5. B.C. Boot says:

    Thanks T.B.,
I guess I should not feel too bad about not being able to find it in Cali. Sounds like the juice will not be the same as it was…

  6. Clive says:

Hi, would any blanco listed below have a big agave body and purity like El Gran Jubileo?

Aha Toro, Casa Noble, Don Julio, Distinguido, Cofradia, Tapatio, Fortaleza.

    Thanks.

    • tequilabob23 says:

Hi Clive, Of the one’s you’ve listed, I have yet to taste the Cofradia and Distiguido brands so I can’t speak to those, but I’d consider the Fortaleza, Tapatio or Casa Noble to all have significant agave flavor, albeit in styles different from each other because of the agave’s growing regions. I’d throw the Aha Toro in there as well if you can find some from NOM 1079. Ultimately, you have to decide which ones are closest in flavor to the EGJ, but in my opinion, you cant go wrong with any of the ones I noted. Thanks for the question!

      • Clive says:

I think I’m just after what ever has some type of baked agave profile core in the mouth.

HERRADURA Silver (silver cap) from 2010 is it good?
CASA NOBLE CRYSTAL (fat bottle). Some Reviews say chill it or use ice. And another said the aroma is Musty. I didn’t like that particular aroma Ocho 8.
CASA REPO seems to gets the better reviews over crystal.
TAPATIO Blanco. Is it a full on “pepper attack” style like wild turkey 101? I can’t handle this. Not keen on huge menthol attack and aniseed notes either. Tasting notes do mention lots of Agave though! There’s the oak aged ones but I still want a blanco to drink.
Fortaleza Blanco. Reviews suggest it could be a bit hot and too complex for my palate.
IXA Tequila mention “like a oven baked agave”. But it’s from a mirco distiller for ultra strong cocktails so maybe it’s not for me. And it uses wine yeast.

Any input again would be appropriated!

  7. Clive says:

think I meant appreciated not appropriated. .

    • tequilabob23 says:

Sounds like you’re looking for a softer styled blanco. I tend to like the ones that have that anise/licorice and/or pepper styles to go along with the agave. The IXA might be a good place to start. You could also try pouring a glass of one of the brands you noted as being “hot”, and let it sit and open up for 10-15 minutes before drinking it. If you aren’t already, you might also try drinking it from a champagne-styled glass. The best thing you can do is to go to a bar that has a couple of these and get 2 (or 3) and line them up side-by-side and taste them. The differences between glasses really become distinct that way and you are not relying only on your “flavor memory” that way.

  8. Clive says:

I got Fortaleza Blanco and Tapatio Anjeo and did not like either! I think it’s that Raw Earthy smell and taste. Both did not have that mouth filling entry like El Gran Jubileo also. Flavor wise too they seemed like polar opposites. Tapatio actually smelt and tasted almost like Ocho 8 which I did not like that profile at all. I do recall when I had El Gran blanco I just drank it from champagne glass. I’ve read reviews that Don Julio Blanco is like eating a fresh baked agave and very simple. Maybe I could try that or Casa Noble Crystal if it’s not like Fortaleza, Tapatio and Ocho.

    • tequilabob23 says:

This is the beauty of our tastes being individual and unique. Tapatio and Fortaleza should be very different (especially comparing the blanco to the añejo) as they tend to be excellent examples of highland vs lowland styles. Depending upon which version of Ocho you get, it’s generally considered a very “agave-forward” brand. I have not had Jubileo in some time, but I don’t recall it as having as much baked agave flavor as some of the others you’ve not cared for – I’ll definitely have to revisit it. As for the other brands you’ve mentioned, you’ll definitely need to try them and form your own opinions. Once you do, you’ll have a great benchmark with which to compare different people’s reviews to see how your tastes align with theirs. It’s a great journey!

  9. Clive says:

Fortaleza aroma seemed similar element to the Tapatio. Sorta like a raw olive. And with that oiliness on the palate. Still has this sulfa-like smell I can’t handle. The Ocha was just their basic blanco 8. I know they have other products and regarded very high. But it’s that sulfa-like aroma? Maybe it’s not but a wild guest I would say body Oder or eggnog. Tasting I got rich soil notes and ingredient so clean. Just too heavy for me on alcohol flavor and made me feel tired. I was not talking about a baked flavor before but a mouth feel that’s gives big baked bread or pie notes impression in the mouth. While being light weight too. El Gran was very simple and easy to drink but seem to have huge thick agave. It seemed like a huge plant in the mouth. I still have the El Gran bottle and it smells like the beach with that salinity thing. I’m Ok with with end bitterness if it’s a bitter/sweet balance that gives a confectionery liquorice impression. Soon as you go into Absinthe bitterness I just can’t handle it. I notice wine fans that review other spirits or even make them just go nuts over huge bitter Absinthe notes and massive does of heavy alcohol flavors. Maybe i could give Casa Noble Crystal or Don Julio ago. Would get expansive if I don’t have a broad taste profile though. I only have a limited taste set and want to stick to that. I can’t even drink wine but normally drink whisky, cachaca, bourbon with similar notes. I would agree all 3 listed above would have far more flavor and heavy alcohol flavors then Jubileo for sure.

Not sure what i wrote before. Nah, I’m not drinking these two bottles at all. Just don’t like that sulfa like aroma and too heavy for me anyway.

I’m trying to find Tierra De Indios tequila for sale in the U.S. Do you have any suggestions?

Love looking at your collection!!! Considering how many bottles you have, I figured you might be a good person to ask this question: I’ve read from several sources that it’s best to consume a bottle of tequila within 6 months of opening the bottle because of the oxidation that affects the flavor. Some sources even say 2-3 months. What are your experiences with this – any thoughts?

    • tequilabob23 says:

Thank you! I’ve heard and read the same thing. My experience has been that it very much depends on the type of cap or seal the bottle has. I’ve had a bottle drastically change within 2 months of opening it and I have others that are still tasty years after opening. Others may disagree, but my advice is to treat each bottle on its own, based on your experience, the cap, the age, etc. If evaporation is already present, or the bottle leaks, assume you’ll want to drink that one more quickly. Of course, you can always go the way of wine drinkers and use one of the gas-based products to help prolong an open bottle. I know a few tequila folks that are very happy with the results. Hope that helps!

Can tequilas on you list be purchased in Cancun Mexico? If so where

    • tequilabob23 says:

Hi Denise, I would assume that many of them can be, although some may be in a more familiar 38% ABV (instead of 40%) format. I’ve never been to Cancun so I can’t offer any specific advise on this – hoping some others might be able to chime in here…

My husband had a bar in downtown St Louis, MO and I have a bottle of Tequila Cuervo, S.A., Tequila, JAL, Mexico distilled from the Agave Plant, a variety of the Maguey. Product of Mexico 80 proof…Do not know how old the bottle might be, any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • tequilabob23 says:

That’s an unanswerable question without seeing a photo or getting more information, such as the NOM number on the label (is there one? If so, is it 1122 or 1104?), the type of tequila (blanco, reposado, etc), and a bit more description of the bottle/label itself. If you can add more information, it will help narrow it down.

  15. raparado says:

The NOM # is 1104, the label is yellow with a red seal fabrica la rojena. If I you need more I will try to send a photo. Thanks.

  16. raparado says:

I will try to send you a photo, that isn’t the same bottle. Thanks till later, Ruth Ann

Hi, I have a turquoise bottle of terra firme tequila-cabo wabo 100% agave reposado and the nom is 1426. It’s 80 proof. The seal is still in place. What is the value? It was purchased around 1999.

    • tequilabob23 says:

Value is ultimately what someone is willing to pay for it – that said, I just bought one for $50 at a store where it had sat for years. No idea what it might bring in an open market/auction with tequila people.
